The roles and mechanisms of epigenetic regulation in mammalian development

講義内容

　The epigenetic regulation and maintenance of gene expression status is crucial in the process of proper cell differentiation and organ development from a single fertilized egg.

One of major factors for this epigenetic regulation is Polycomb group (PcG) proteins, which are widely conserved from plants to animals. PcG proteins form at least two multimeric complexes, that is, Polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1) and PRC2. PRC1 and PRC2 cooperate to mediate transcriptional repression of target genes via histone modifications and chromatin compaction. In this lecture, I will introduce the various composition of PcG complexes, their functions and roles in maintaining gene repression status during mammalian development.
