The OMU Urban Resilience Research Center (UReC) organized the 11th East-Asian Inclusive Cities Network (EA-ICN) Workshop, which was held from Tuesday, August 23 to Friday, August 26, 2022.

This international workshop, attended by researchers and fieldworkers from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, provides a platform to share experiences of issues commonly faced by cities in East Asia, and has been held in Osaka, Seoul, Taipei, and Hong Kong. UReC took over the role of main coordinator from the Urban Research Plaza (Osaka City University), making this the first year that UReC hosted the workshop, which was supported by Osaka City and Yao City, among others.

This year’s theme was “From fragmented, fragile cities to inclusive, resilient cities where diversity is respected,” with workshop sessions and research presentations held on the Sugimoto and Nakamozu campuses over the four-day period. Participants also joined site visits and fieldwork in closed elementary schools in Ikuno Ward, Osaka City; Sakai City; and Yao City.

Nearly 350 people, including overseas guests, attended the workshop sessions and fieldwork, where the participants from Japan and abroad actively conversed and asked questions.
