Description: The main goal of this course is to discuss the kind of writing that is
appropriate in a research mathematical paper submitted for publication
in a mathematical journal.
In the first part of this course, we shall explain the basic rules and
requirements for Mathematical writing giving some specific recommendations.
The second part shall be devoted to give an introduction to LaTeX aiming
to get the students prepared to start typesetting their first mathematical
paper with ease.
Intended Audience: 4th grade, Master + Doctor course students.
Plan of the course:
Lecture 1: We give the standard global rules for writing a mathematics paper. Moreover,
we introduce some of the most useful phrases and common constructions in
mathematics writing.
Lecture 2: In this lecture, we focus on the basic feature of mathematics writing.
Namely, we explain the most common rules for blending words and symbols
smoothly inside the text.
Lecture 3: LaTeX is now the universal computer typesetting program used by mathematicians. In this lecture, we introduce the fundamental concepts and the basic commands of LaTeX.
Lecture 4: We go ahead with more advanced LaTeX commands. We shall explain how to
define new commands, how to create specific environments, how to insert
pictures and figures, how to divide the document into sections ...
