センター長

The Center for Research and Development of Bioresources was established in 1992 with the aim of contributing to industry development in Osaka Prefecture by integrating the university's cutting-edge biotechnology with private companies' industrial technology. From that point on, the center has made tireless efforts to enable the development of broad new fields by introducing state-of-the-art technology. With our daily efforts valued by many companies and our long-term joint research supported by mutual trust, we return the fruits of our activity to society. Currently, the center is used as a facility to promote the development of new technologies and products in the fields of biotechnology and bioscience, collaborating not only with local companies but also with companies outside Osaka Prefecture.

As over 20 years have passed since the beginning of the 21st century, remarkable progress has been made in science and technology as well as industries concerning medical, agriculture, food, chemical, and other products. However, for humanity to prosper sustainably while protecting the Earth's environment, we are confronted domestically and internationally with the big task of securing sustainable energy and resources. It is essential to guarantee substance production and energy supply systems using bioresources. Furthermore, as Japan is rapidly becoming a super-aging society, it is desirable to extend healthy life expectancy to maintain an independent, healthy population. There is not only a need for medicine to treat disease but also health measures for disease prevention and betterment. Adapting to these social conditions with SDGs in mind, society's needs are also changing notably. In addition to the continuation of existing projects concerning areas such as health, agriculture, the environment, and energy, strengthening the integration of technologies in industry and academia is expected to connect with the development and creation of technology that uses bioresources and biofunctions.

To accommodate the needs not only of SDGs but also a society beyond SDGs, it is thought that, moving forward, there will be a diversity of tasks that need to be resolved in the fields of biotechnology and bioscience. The center will continue to strengthen its ties with industry and academia and contribute to passing on a sustainable society to the future. We look forward to your support and cooperation with the promotion and management of joint research with our center.
