晶析分野
私たちの生活に不可欠な医薬品、食品、さらには実験に用いられる化学薬品の多くは、粉末として流通しており、その大半が結晶です。しかし、一口に結晶と言っても、すべてが同じ形や構造をしているわけではありません。結晶構造が変わると溶解度や溶解速度が大きく異なり、医薬品では効き目や安定性に影響を及ぼすこともあります。当研究室では、晶析の基盤技術を発展させることを目的として、ペプチド、オリゴ糖、リン脂質、核酸化合物など多様なバイオプロダクトの結晶製造に関する研究を行っています。
バイオマス分野
再生可能エネルギーの有効活用を図るため、当研究室では木質系バイオマスの水熱分解に関する研究を行っています。木質系バイオマスに含まれるセルロースやヘミセルロースはバイオエタノールの原料となりますが、もう一つの主要成分であるリグニンの利用法は十分に確立されていません。リグニンは石油に代わる新たな化学原料となり得る重要物質であり、当研究室ではその高効率な分解法と有効利用の方法について研究を進めています。
