Illustration Designed by Prof. Yutaka Amao Featured on the Cover of New Journal of Chemistry (Issued September 1)
Illustration Designed by Director Amao of the Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis, Selected for Journal Cover
An illustration designed by Yutaka Amao (Director and Professor, Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis) was selected for the cover of the New Journal of Chemistry published on Tuesday, September 1.
[Title]
Enhancement of catalytic activity for selective hydrogen production from formate with homogeneously poly(vinylpyrrolidone)/cationic poly(l-lysine) dispersed platinum nanoparticles

[Research Details]
The research group discovered that hydrogen production efficiency improves when using a catalyst in which platinum nanoparticles—which promote the reaction that decomposes formate to produce hydrogen—are dispersed with polyvinylpyrrolidone and the biopolymer polylysine.

Comment from Director Amao
"I designed this illustration with the image of polylysine, surrounding platinum nanoparticles encased in polyvinylpyrrolidone (armor), attracting a large amount of formate. Inside the armor, the formate is cut with scissors to produce hydrogen (the white spheres)." This cover is a masterpiece finalized entirely by Director Amao himself.
