High Expectations for Future Research! Award Ceremony and Commemorative Lecture for the Award for Encouragement of Young Researchers (Held on November 26, 2020)

On Thursday, November 26, 2020, the award ceremony and commemorative lecture for the Fiscal Year 2020 Osaka City University Award for Encouragement of Young Researchers (Yoichiro Nambu Memorial Award and Kyo Tsuneto Memorial Award) were held at the Tanaka Memorial Hall.

The Osaka City University Glocal Human Resource Development Project Award for Encouragement of Young Researchers (Yoichiro Nambu Memorial Award and Kyo Tsuneto Memorial Award) was established to encourage the development and active participation of young researchers. The award is named after the late Yoichiro Nambu (Professor Emeritus, Special Honorary Professor, and 2008 Nobel Laureate in Physics) for the science category, and the late Kyo Tsuneto, the first President of Osaka City University who laid the foundation of the university, for the humanities category. The Yoichiro Nambu Memorial Award for science was established in fiscal year 2017, and the Kyo Tsuneto Memorial Award for humanities was newly established this fiscal year.

The purpose of this award is to honor young researchers of the university who have achieved outstanding research results, such as publishing excellent books and papers, and from whom further success is expected in the future. By awarding a research grant as a supplementary prize, it aims to boost the motivation of young researchers and enhance the research standard of the university.

This fiscal year, there were 23 applicants for the science category and 8 applicants for the humanities category. As a result of the selection process, five young researchers were presented with certificates of commendation and a catalog for a research encouragement grant of 500,000 yen by President Tetsuo Arakawa. In his congratulatory address, the President stated, "The award mainly for humanities has been established starting this fiscal year. As a comprehensive university, it is necessary to further evolve by integrating science, technology, art, and design. I hope that you will continue to work hard on your research toward a bright future and achieve even greater success."

Following the award ceremony, a commemorative lecture by the award recipients was held. After expressing their joy and gratitude for receiving the awards, the recipients gave lectures on their respective research details. The Q&A session after the lectures reflected high expectations for their future research.
