Kickoff Workshop Held at National Taiwan University

Accelerating International Joint Research on Artificial Photosynthesis! Kickoff Workshop Held in Taiwan

20200207-1

On February 7, 2020, a kickoff workshop for "International Joint Research on the Creation of Photocatalyst-Biocatalyst Composite Materials for Carbon Dioxide Utilization" was held at National Taiwan University. This workshop was organized following the selection of a research project by Yutaka Amao (Professor and Director, Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis) and Chia-Wen (Kevin) Wu (Professor, National Taiwan University) for the Fund for the Promotion of Joint International Research (Fostering Joint International Research (B)) under the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

Prior to the workshop, Yutaka Amao (Professor and Director, Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis), Yusuke Yamada (Professor, Graduate School of Engineering), and Hiroyasu Tabe (Specially Appointed Lecturer, OCU Advanced Research Institute for Sciences and Arts) visited The Center of Atomic Initiative for New Materials (AI-MAT)—the only research center at National Taiwan University—together with Professor Chia-Wen (Kevin) Wu. There, they exchanged information on artificial photosynthesis research with Li-Chyong Chen (Director, AI-MAT) and Professor Chun-Wei Chen. It was agreed that AI-MAT and ReCAP will consider promoting research exchanges in the future.

The workshop commenced in the afternoon. Following an overview of the research project by Yutaka Amao (Professor and Director, Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis), research presentations were delivered by Yusuke Yamada (Professor, Graduate School of Engineering), Hiroyasu Tabe (Specially Appointed Lecturer, OCU Advanced Research Institute for Sciences and Arts), Professor Chi-Sheng Wu from National Taiwan University, and five other researchers, leading to active and lively discussions. The workshop concluded on a highly successful note, establishing a future policy where young researchers, including Specially Appointed Lecturer Tabe and graduate students, will undertake long-term stays at each other's universities to advance their collaborative research.

Further international exchange and the continued development of research at the Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis are highly anticipated in the future.
