On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, Osaka City University signed a partnership agreement regarding a demonstration project for disaster prevention storage batteries with the Osaka City Crisis Management Office, the Osaka City Higashinari Ward Office, and Mitani Battery Technology Research Institute LLC (hereinafter referred to as "Mitani Battery"), and held a signing ceremony.
At the university, the Center for Education and Research on Disaster Reduction (CERD) actively engages in community disaster prevention activities by partnering with multiple administrative wards within Osaka City to conduct community disaster prevention classes and train disaster prevention leaders.
Under this partnership, a demonstration project will commence this September using disaster prevention storage batteries currently under development by Mitani Battery, a venture company spun out of the university, to charge smartphones at evacuation centers during disasters. This initiative is expected to accelerate the research, development, and practical application of Mitani Battery's storage batteries, and promote the creation of safe and secure communities in terms of regional disaster prevention through the widespread adoption of secure disaster prevention storage batteries.
