Consul General Vu Tuan Hai and Consul Kieu Manh Linh from Consulate General of Vietnam in Osaka Visit Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis

On Friday, April 20, 2018, Consul General Vu Tuan Hai and Consul Kieu Manh Linh from the Consulate General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Osaka, along with Chairman Teiichi Nishimura and Board Member Yu Kasahara from the Japan-Vietnam Kansai Friendship Association, visited our university to pay a courtesy call on President Tetsuo Arakawa. In December 2015, the Consulate General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Osaka and our university signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on education, research, and industry-academia-government collaboration. In the previous fiscal year, the two institutions deepended their exchange through events such as a lecture held at our university by the former Consul General, Mr. Tran Duc Vinh.

On the day of the visit, Consul General Hai and Consul Linh first toured the Sugimoto Campus, including the Media Center and Library, the Tanaka Memorial Hall, and the Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis. Following the tour, they engaged in an exchange of opinions in the President's Office with President Tetsuo Arakawa, Vice President Odanaka, and International Center Vice Director Kubo.

The Consul General expressed his impressions, noting that our university's lush green and well-equipped campus provides a wonderful environment ideal for research and learning. He also stated that the partnership to date has been extremely meaningful for both sides, expressing his positive commitment to further deepening collaboration across various fields in the future and contributing to the advancement of friendly relations between Japan and Vietnam.

President Arakawa expressed his desire to continue promoting collaborative activities at our university and in Osaka. He also discussed his vision to build an organic network centered around our university's alumni who are now actively contributing back in Vietnam, thereby further promoting the recruitment of international students and academic exchanges among researchers.

Following the meeting, a welcome reception was held at "Nonohana House," where Vietnamese researchers and international students enrolled in our Graduate School of Medicine, along with Chairman Teiichi Nishimura and Board Member Yu Kasahara from the Japan-Vietnam Kansai Friendship Association, attended. The Consul General spoke warmly with the Vietnamese researchers and students, engaging in lively conversations about their studies at our university and their lives in Osaka. At the conclusion of the event, President Arakawa presented the visitors with commemorative gifts, including his signature "President's Stew," bringing the gathering to a warm and harmonious close.
