Research Results by Prof. Yutaka Amao (Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis) et al. Published in Chemical Communications Issued by Royal Society of Chemistry

A research paper by a research group led by Professor Yutaka Amao (Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis) titled "Highly selective 1,4-NADH regeneration via hydrogenated NAD+ analogs using Pt/SiO2 catalyst with low pressure hydrogen gas" has been published in Chemical Communications, an academic journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and was featured on the Front Cover of Issue 83 on October 25, 2025.

Summary of This Research

1,4-NADH (reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is an important coenzyme present in almost all cells in the body, primarily playing a central role in energy metabolism and redox reactions. In this paper, hydrogenation of nicotinamide analogs using a Pt/SiO2 catalyst followed by hydride transfer to NAD+ achieved 1,4-NADH regeneration with extremely high selectivity, which was previously difficult to attain. This achievement is expected to lead to a practical and sustainable method for 1,4-NADH regeneration using low-pressure hydrogen gas.
