Educational Objectives

Undergraduate Programs

In the undergraduate programs we strive to equip students with international communication skills, including foreign language proficiency, the ability to display independent and comprehensive judgment from a broad perspective, and the ability to identify and solve problems, so that they will form the core elements to underpin the students’ continual, progressive studies. At the same time, we aim to foster human resources in light of the demands placed on the university by society.

Graduate Programs

In the graduate programs we develop human resources who are equipped with an ethical foundation of research and the insight to identify the essence of changes in society, science, and technology and who are able to make an active commitment to social issues.

In the undergraduate programs students strive to obtain international communication skills, including foreign language proficiency, independent and comprehensive judgment based on a broad perspective, and the ability to identify and solve problems, so that they will form the core elements to underpin the students’ continual, progressive study. At the same time, students aim to acquire extensive knowledge in light of the demands placed on the university by society, such as the role of human resources in the era of Society 5.0 and an ideal vision of higher education.

In the Liberal Arts, Sciences and Global Education of the graduate programs, students also strive to generate the following study achievements.

Knowledge / Understanding
  • Study about diversity, and respect and gain knowledge about different cultures.
  • Respect humanity/ language/culture, science/technology, society/history, and the environment/health/sports, and deepen their understanding.
  • Study knowledge and technology systematically in the respective specialized fields and apply them.
Skills
  • Use Japanese or a foreign language to receive and disseminate information, engage in communication, and act as an intermediary on the level required for the relevant language.
  • Analyze nature and social phenomena using mathematics and statistics and use the results for making decisions.
  • Collect and analyze a wide variety of information using information and communication technology (ICT), judge the results appropriately, and make effective use of them in accordance with a sense of morals.
  • Think critically based on logical analysis of information and knowledge from many points of view and also express the results.
  • Acquire the skills for identifying problems and the skills for collecting, analyzing, and organizing the information necessary to reach a solution, and also the practical skills to solve these problems.

  • Deepen one’s specialty to an advanced level, obtain extensive knowledge, and contribute to the development of the relevant specialized field, while integrating these qualities and applying them to other fields.
  • Conduct research with social reliability and high integrity based on the ethical view that a researcher is responsible for the integrity of their research.
  • Share the benefits from one’s research with the local community and ultimately with international society by cooperating with researchers from different disciplines and working extensively together with those from various fields, such as companies, local governments, and NPOs.
  • Collect the necessary information for career development and design a lifelong career independently.
  • Devise and implement measures to independently solve problems of modern society, based on the education and insight to see various problems of modern society from multiple perspectives.

Course Introduction

To satisfy students’ desire to study and to introduce extensive liberal arts and specialized education systematically, we offer courses in line with the following educational objectives in our undergraduate programs.

Undergraduate Programs

①Comprehensive Liberal Arts Courses

Acquire the ability to comprehensively use an extensive range of knowledge based on a foundation of thinking, expression, and judgment.

②First-Year Education Courses

Cultivate the skills necessary for studying at university (e.g., academic writing) and an attitude of independent learning while studying actively in cooperation with students from different schools and colleges.

③Information Literacy Courses

Obtain the basic knowledge and skills for information processing, online communication skills, information ethics for participating in the information society, IT-based presentation skills, etc. whether in the humanities or the sciences.

④Foreign Language Courses

A) English

Strive to be able to eventually comprehend high-level academic English contexts and obtain reliable writing and presentation skills through the two-year compulsory course.

B) Second Foreign Language Courses

In light of the current situation in the world, in which intellectual human resources with a truly international mindset and diversity are needed, and to develop intellectual human resources appropriate for an advanced research-based university located in Osaka, the program will offer not only English as a compulsory subject but also Korean, Chinese, Russian, German, or French as electives to foster multilingual and multicultural perspectives.

⑤Special Courses

Strive to improve one’s Japanese proficiency to the same level as native speakers, since it is important for international students to obtain sufficient Japanese proficiency and communication skills when studying in Japan.

⑥Health and Sport Science Courses

Acquire specific and academic knowledge and methods necessary for maintaining lifelong mental and physical good health and further improving it mainly through sports and other activities, while deepening one’s understanding of the roles of health sciences and sports culture through both theory and practice.

⑦Basic Education Courses

Cultivate the academic ability and qualities needed as the cornerstone for exploring science, and learn the operating principles of PCs and networks, as well as the mechanisms of databases for storing and retrieving massive amounts data effectively, and the mechanism of information retrieval.

Teacher Education Courses

Acquire the ability to deal with diverse, complex issues that teachers will be required to address in the future.

⑨Minor Courses

In addition to the major course required to graduate from the school, college or graduate school to which each student belongs, the program offers minor courses designed so that students can study independently in their field of interest. The intention is to develop human resources who can think from multiple perspectives.

Graduate Programs

Graduate School Common Education Courses

We offer Research Integrity, which serves as the foundation for academic research, as a compulsory course. Meanwhile, electives include the following: Academic Writing, in which students strive to obtain the English proficiency necessary for writing academic papers in English; Graduate School Career Design Seminar, which enables students to design lifelong careers independently, and Development of Researchers for Creating Innovation, which provides not only the basic knowledge necessary for creating innovation, but also corporate manager training.
