Promotion Office for University Coalition to Co-create a Sustainable Society

Purpose of the Promotion Office for University Coalition to Co-create a Sustainable Society

Under the leadership of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and the Ministry of the Environment, the "University Coalition for Carbon Neutrality" was established on July 29, 2021, as a forum to share and disseminate information for universities and other institutions actively working toward carbon neutrality. Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU) has participated in three working groups (WGs) since its establishment: the Zero Carbon Campus WG,  the Innovation WG, and the Human Resource Development WG.
In order to contribute to these activities, OMU established corresponding WGs within the university in September 2021. The University Coalition for Carbon Neutrality Office has been working to develop and promote strategies to support the activities of these WGs in achieving carbon neutrality.
In April 2026, the University Coalition for Carbon Neutrality was renamed the "University Coalition to Co-create a Sustainable Society" to reflect the further advancement of its mission. Accordingly, our University Coalition for Carbon Neutrality Office has been renamed the "Promotion Office for University Coalition to Co-create a Sustainable Society."
Through strategic planning and implementation, the Office works to improve campus sustainability, promote joint research between OMU and companies, and cultivate the next generation of leaders, with the aim of co-creating a sustainable society.
