Soybean oil intake induces OPA1 expression in hypothalamic MC4R neurons, contributing to adaptive regulation of appetite. MC4R neuron–specific OPA1 deficiency increases soybean oil consumption and leads to obesity, with a more pronounced effect in females. Furthermore, the anorectic response to MC4R agonist treatment is attenuated, particularly in female knockout mice. These findings identify OPA1 in MC4R neurons as a key mediator linking dietary fat intake to appetite and body weight regulation.
