Applied Mathematics, Probability, and Statistics

Applied Mathematics, Probability, and Statistics Group

Applied Mathematics
Applied mathematics is a field of mathematics aimed at applications in natural sciences, social sciences, and engineering. Its scope is wide ranging, including, for example, the study of reaction-diffusion equations, mathematical economics, coding theory, and mathematical logic.

Statistics and Probability
Statistics is a systematic body of methods and theories for extracting useful information from various types of data. Probability theory is a branch of mathematics that deals with random phenomena. By drawing on diverse areas of mathematics, a wide variety of research is conducted in the fields of statistics and probability.
