Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology

About Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology

The Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology provides education and research to understand and elucidate various issues related to the environment surrounding agricultural land, natural land, and urban green space, which are the foundations of life, from multiple perspectives in a wide range of academic fields, including landscape architecture, agricultural engineering, ecology, and environmental studies, and to concretely address these issues. The program fosters human resources who can contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by working interdisciplinary on issues related to the green environment, which is formed by the relationship between the elements of the environment, i.e., atmosphere, water, soil, and living organisms, and human activities.

Curriculum

Master’s Program

We have nine research groups: Ecological Meteorology, Environmental Control in Biology, Geo-environmental Engineering, Science and Engineering of Hydrological Environment, Environmental Engineering in Biological Production, Landscape Planning and Design, Landscape Architecture and Conservation, Regional Landscape Management, and Environmental Entomology and Zoology. In the special subjects, students are required to take lectures related to green environmental science in general, career design, and presentation and can also select subjects of interest from lectures related to each research group. In the research guidance subjects, students acquire the knowledge and abilities necessary to conduct research and projects through seminars, experiments, practical training, and exercises conducted by each research group, and work on their master’s thesis. The program fosters the ability to understand the problems facing the green environment from multiple perspectives in a wide range of academic fields, the ability to apply specialized knowledge and skills to problem solving, and the ability to think and express ideas originally and logically.

Doctoral Program

As in the Master’s Program, nine research groups are assigned. In the research guidance subjects, students acquire the advanced and specialized knowledge and abilities necessary to conduct research and projects through seminars, experiments, practical training, and exercises conducted by each research group, and work on their doctoral dissertations. The program fosters the ability to understand the problems facing the green environment from multiple perspectives in a wide range of academic fields, the ability to apply specialized knowledge and skills to problem solving, and the ability to think and express ideas originally and logically, and trains highly skilled professionals and researchers with the ability to play an active role in specialized fields related to green environmental science.
