Department of Agricultural Biology

About Department of Agricultural Biology

Department of Agricultural Biology contributes to the construction of a sustainable society by integrating diverse research areas including research to understand the potential of living organisms, especially plants; production and securing of food, resources, and useful substances; and research related to green biotechnology and agri-innovation. We provide advanced and in-depth specialized education in a wide range of areas, from genetics to agricultural field science and data science, intending to develop diverse human resources who can enter professions in various fields including agriculture, food, chemistry, the environment, energy, and information science, with an international perspective.

Master’s Course

In the Master’s course, students acquire specialized knowledge and skills in applied biological sciences. Students are also trained to become highly skilled professionals and researchers who can work in various fields by acquiring the ability to extract problems from research issues independently and lead them to logical solutions, as well as presentation skills.

Doctoral Course

In the Doctoral course, students acquire a high level of specialized knowledge and skills in applied biological science. Students will also acquire the ability to plan research design independently and carry out research with a broad perspective, as well as advanced presentation skills, to become highly skilled professionals and researchers who can play an active role in a wide range of fields.

Curriculum

Master’s Course

We offer required subjects include compulsory courses, career design courses, presentation courses in both Japanese and English, and research justice courses. Elective subjects include topics in breeding, plant nutrition, and functional genomics; special lectures (intensive courses) are also offered for students to acquire advanced expertise in applied biological science. In the research guidance subjects, students prepare master's theses through research and seminars under the supervision of faculty members and develop the ability to find problems, formulate a hypothesis, validate the hypothesis via experiments, and solve the problems. Through these curriculums, we develop diverse human resources who can play an active role in various fields including agriculture, food, chemistry, environment, energy, and information science.

Doctoral Course

We offer required subjects including research justice subjects and research guidance subjects. In the research guidance subjects (Research Project in Advanced Agricultural Biology), students will prepare their doctoral dissertations through research and seminars under the supervision of faculty members. Through these curriculums, students will develop abilities to think creatively and logically; to solve problems; and to communicate internationally. Students will be able to plan research design independently and verify research problems, appropriately analyze the obtained results, and draw novel conclusions from the results. Our program develops human resources who can play significant roles in society as advanced professionals and researchers and can contribute to the advancement of applied biological science and society.
