About the Department of Law and Political Science, Graduate School of Law

The Graduate School of Law aims to foster researchers and advanced professionals with specialized knowledge in the fields of law and political science, by providing ample opportunity for close interaction with high-level faculty members.

In the "Advanced Studies Program" (Master's Program), after acquiring the ability to explore specific issues related to law and political science, students will gain the knowledge and skills required to become a civil servant (national/local civil servant, court secretary, court clerk, etc.), a legal professional with qualifications such as a judicial scrivener, or an advanced professional working in a private company.

The "Academic Research Program" (Master's Program) and the Doctoral Program foster researchers equipped with the ability to discover novel problems in the fields of law and political science, and to conduct advanced and theoretical research autonomously.

Master's Program

Advanced Studies Program

This program is designed to develop a student’s ability to explore law and political science broadly in an interdisciplinary manner and inquire into a specific issue. Students will mainly take “Issue Oriented Subjects ,” which consist of public law/politics subjects intended for students who aspire to become a civil servant, and global law and politics subjects intended for students who want to work for a private company, etc. and write a master’s thesis while receiving “Master’s Thesis Seminar ” from their supervisor. A Master of Law degree will be granted upon completion of this program.

Academic Research Program

This program is designed to develop a student’s ability to conduct theoretical research necessary to advance to the doctoral program. Students will mainly take “Theory Oriented Subjects,” which comprise the Basic Law, Positive Law and Political Science fields, and write a master's thesis while receiving “Master’s Thesis Tutorial” from their supervisor. A Master of Law degree will be granted upon completion of this program.

Doctoral Program

This program is aimed at developing the ability to carry out advanced theoretical research necessary to become a researcher in the field of law and political science. Students will mainly take “Theory Oriented Subjects”, which comprise the Basic Law, Positive Law and Political Science fields, and write a doctoral dissertation while receiving research guidance from their supervisor. A Doctor of Laws will be granted upon completion of this program.
