About Law School

Osaka Metropolitan University Law School is a research and education organization consisting of researchers who are among Japan’s top scholars and practitioners with rich practical experience.

The OMU Law School, as the only law school in the municipal area of the city of Osaka, aims to develop “true” legal professionals with the advanced legal skills necessary to respond immediately to various legal problems typical of big cities.

Subjects offered at the Law School are categorized into four areas: (1) Basic Legal Subjects, intended to develop legal knowledge and a legal way of thinking essential for all legal professionals; (2) Basic Legal Practice Subjects, intended to help students develop a sense of responsibility and ethics as legal professionals and acquire the basics of specialized knowledge and skills required for the legal profession; (3) Basic Law and Related Subjects, intended to develop the abilities to relativize and critically examine existing laws and to deeply understand the functions and roles of laws in politics and society; and (4) Advanced/Applied Subjects, intended to enhance specialized skills in order to properly respond to new legal issues arising in the modern globalized society.
