Paving the way for future collaboration: Ambassador of Iceland visits OMU

On April 16, 2026, OMU welcomed His Excellency Mr. Hreinn Pálsson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iceland, to Morinomiya Campus. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Haruki Tsuji, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Iceland. They were welcomed by Vice President Masahide Takahashi and Lecturer Yasuko Nakai, who served as a liaison for this visit.

The meeting was opened by Vice President Takahashi, who expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to welcome Ambassador Pálsson to OMU. Ambassador Pálsson followed with introducing the strong interest in Japan seen across Iceland, particularly in the areas of culture and academic engagement, which could set the stage for strengthening the relationship between Iceland and Japan.

They then discussed academic relations and shared views on potential cooperations between OMU and universities in Iceland. Research fields in which Iceland has strengths were especially highlighted to emphasize the importance of fostering sustainable partnerships through research collaboration and student exchange.

Through this visit, OMU reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its global network of academic partners. This engagement is expected to pave the way for continued dialogue and the development of future cooperation with Iceland.
