Unveiling of reused Nishijin textiles in a permanent exhibition celebrating the “Joint Pavilion Iida Group × Osaka Metropolitan University”

An unveiling ceremony for a permanent exhibition featuring Nishijin textiles reused from the “Joint Pavilion Iida Group × Osaka Metropolitan University” at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai was held at the SMBC Sky Lounge on the 12th floor of Morinomiya Campus on Monday, May 25, 2026. The exhibition was established to preserve and share the legacy of the Expo with future generations.

The pavilion featured the exquisite Nishijin textiles, a Kyoto traditional craftwork made from silk, on its exterior. Following the conclusion of Expo 2025, the textiles were relocated to Morinomiya Campus and transformed into a folding screen-style installation that showcases traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The textiles will be permanently exhibited on the 12th floor together with a replica of the pavilion to preserve the memories, creativity, and partnerships fostered through the Expo.

The ceremony was attended by Shinichi Fukushima, Chairperson of the University Public Corporation Osaka; Atsushi Hirokawa (Pavilion Director) of Iida Group Holdings Co., Ltd.; and OMU representatives Vice President Fuminori Tokunaga and Professor Yutaka Amao, Director of the Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis.

The speakers reflected on the knowledge and partnerships fostered through the Expo and expressed their commitment to leveraging these values in future education and research. They also voiced expectations that the exhibition would become a new attraction of Morinomiya Campus.

This exhibition serves as a symbolic bridge connecting the memories of Expo 2025, the beauty of traditional Japanese culture, and OMU's vision.
