Opening Ceremony held for Graduate School of Drug Discovery Sciences

Osaka Metropolitan University held an opening ceremony at Morinomiya Campus on June 6, 2026, to mark the launch of the Graduate School of Drug Discovery Sciences, a new interdisciplinary graduate program established to foster the next generation of drug discovery professionals.

As pharmaceutical development increasingly requires expertise spanning multiple disciplines, the Graduate School was established to provide an integrated educational environment that brings together knowledge from science, engineering, agriculture, informatics, veterinary science, and medicine, and offers students opportunities to collaborate with industrial partners.

At the ceremony, President Hiroyuki Sakuragi delivered opening remarks, followed by an address from Dean Takashi Inui outlining the background of the Graduate School’s establishment and its future outlook. The keynote lecture highlighted the social significance of drug discovery and global challenges in the field and panel discussions emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration with the Graduate School of Medicine. Congratulatory messages from distinguished guests further underscored expectations for the school’s future development.

Through interdisciplinary education, industry collaboration, and advanced research, the Graduate School of Drug Discovery Sciences aims to contribute to the development of innovative therapies and to the advancement of healthcare in Japan and around the world.
