Professor Norimichi Takenaka of the Graduate School of Sustainable System Sciences has been awarded the title of Honorary Professor by the University of Science, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

Professor Takenaka is the first researcher to receive the title of Honorary Professor from the University. This honor was awarded in recognition of his outstanding contributions over more than two decades to education, research, academic collaboration, and student exchange.

Since 2004, the universities have been partners in a series of joint research projects and human resource development initiatives. Professor Takenaka has been an important part of these programs by supervising students’ research activities, promoting international academic exchange, and building academic networks between Japan and Vietnam.

Professor Takenaka’s research interests include atmospheric chemistry and atmospheric environmental science. In partnership with Vietnamese researchers, he has led studies on the atmospheric conditions in Ho Chi Minh City. These collaborations have enhanced the research capabilities of both universities and led to the publication of many internationally recognized academic papers.

At the conferment ceremony, President Tran Le Quan of the University of Science presented the award to Professor Takenaka and recognized his significant contributions to the university’s educational and research activities.

The award not only recognizes Professor Takenaka’s long-standing contributions to research and education but also symbolizes the growing academic partnerships between Japan and Vietnam. Continued collaboration between the two universities is expected to further advance research activities and foster the development of globally minded students in the years to come.

I am deeply honored to receive the title of Honorary Professor. I was both surprised and proud to learn that this is the first conferment by the University of Science in its 30-year history and the first within Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City in 12 years. As a representative of Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU), I consider this a great honor.

In particular, I am very proud of the achievements of our student exchange programs. These programs have contributed significantly to improving the English communication skills and global perspectives of our students, while also helping attract outstanding international talent to our university.

None of this would have been possible without the support and cooperation of the faculty at OMU, as well as our colleagues at our partner institution in Vietnam. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved.
