Enhancing UK-Japan connections: British Council and British Consulate-General Osaka representatives visit OMU
On August 27, 2026, OMU hosted Director Jim Booth OBE and Stakeholder Relationship Manager Chie Yasuda from the British Council Japan Office, as well as Michael Blyth, the Consul-General of the British Consulate-General in Osaka, to discuss ways of further strengthening ties between the UK and Japan.
The delegation was welcomed by President Hiroyuki Sakuragi and Kazuko Uwasu, Director of OMU Global. The visit also allowed President Sakuragi and Mr. Blyth to reconnect, having previously met at last year’s signing ceremony with Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK.
During the discussions, President Sakuragi delivered an overview of OMU's internationalization strategy and its ongoing relationship with the UK, drawing on his own experience conducting research in the country. The participants explored ways to expand educational and academic exchanges.
The visit offered a valuable opportunity to exchange views on future collaborations with one of OMU’s key international partners. It underscored OMU’s commitment to enhancing its global engagement through partnerships with universities and organizations in the UK and around the world.
