Today, Friday, April 1, Osaka Metropolitan University opens its doors. OMU is a new public university created through the merger of Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University. It has been nearly 10 years since the merger was first considered. Finally, the day has come. We express our sincere gratitude to the many people who have worked so hard to launch OMU.
On April 11, we hold Osaka Metropolitan University’s first entrance ceremony, to admit our first class of students to the university. It is our hope that OMU, with its one undergraduate college, 11 undergraduate schools, and 15 graduate schools, will be a place where students interact with diverse people and learn to appreciate each other’s values.
Students, faculty, and staff—let us all work together as we seek to build this new university.
Masahiro Tatsumisago, President
Osaka Metropolitan University
