El Salvadoran Ambassador to Japan paid a courtesy visit to OMU

On April 20, 2022, the Ambassador of the Republic of El Salvador to Japan, H.E. Mr. Diego Alejandro Dalton Rosales and Ms. Mayra Valle Torres, Counsellor from the Embassy of the Republic of El Salvador to Japan, visited the OMU Abeno Campus. The visitors were welcomed by Professor Makoto Tsubota, Vice President in charge of International Relations, Professor Daisuke Tsuruta, Specially-appointed Vice President in charge of International Public Relations, Professor Norifumi Kawada, Dean of the School and Graduate School of Medicine, and Professor Yasutoshi Kido from the Graduate School of Medicine. The visit was facilitated through an El Salvador-based medical research project led by Professor Kido.

Vice President Tsubota welcomed the Ambassador and introduced OMU, a public university newly established through the merger of Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University. The Ambassador offered his congratulations on the merger and expressed his gratitude for Japanese support to El Salvador. This year, 2022, marks the 87th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between El Salvador and Japan.

Emphasizing the importance of health, the Ambassador signaled his appreciation for the OMU contributions to Japanese support for medical infrastructure development and capacity building in El Salvador. Concluding the meeting, Vice President Tsubota and Ambassador Dalton celebrated the ongoing partnership between OMU and El Salvador. 

After the meeting with Vice President Tsubota, the Ambassador and his delegation had a meeting with a research team led by Professor Kido to discuss cutting-edge medical studies before touring the Osaka Metropolitan University Hospital.
