OMU Student Team Wins Second Place in Student English Presentation Contest

On November 27, 2022, Team Harmonies, from our OMU, won second place in the Student English Presentation Contest held by the Consortium of Universities in Osaka at Grand Front Osaka.

The Student English Presentation Contest is held with the aim of fostering international awareness among students and contributing to the development of young people, with a high level of international awareness and communication skills through learning together, to deepen exchange and friendship across grades, faculties, universities, and nationalities.

This year, 11 teams gave speeches on the theme of "concrete proposals for achieving the SDGs," which is connected to the sub-theme of the Osaka, Kansai Expo 2025.

Comments from Team Harmonies

From the sub-theme of the Osaka Expo, our group interpreted “Connecting lives” as connecting all people of various backgrounds. To resolve the problems of discrimination and inequality, we need to gain not only knowledge but also “proper behaviors to communicate.” In this project, we designed an original card game “UNI4,” and created a prototype. By combining a card game with entertainment, we hope to give people of all ages the chance to know other cultures and communicate with others. We hope this game will help to achieve SDGs #10 “Reduced inequalities”

All of the members of our group have international experiences, so it is a delight that we had a chance to present in front of so many people. We discussed a lot about how we can promote cross-cultural understanding, create several versions of the prototype, did play testing, and practiced a lot ahead of the contest. All these experiences are meaningful and enjoyable to us. Our proposal was not able to achieve 1st place, but we are proud that we could place in this contest. Although we narrowly missed out on winning this year's competition, we are still proud that we were able to win a prize.
