Professor from The Pennsylvania State University pays courtesy visit to OMU President

On May 31, 2023, Professor Clive A. Randall of The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) paid a courtesy visit to OMU President Masahiro Tatsumisago.

Professor Randall is the Director of Materials Research Institute at Penn State, which is one of the world's leading laboratories in the field of materials science and materials engineering. Professor Randall's outstanding achievements in the development of compositions and synthesis methods for functional materials, including ceramic materials, and in the search for novel materials have been cited more than 30,000 times and have profoundly influenced researchers around the world. He is one of the world's leading researchers and has received numerous awards, including the title of Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). In addition to his pursuit of fundamental materials research, he also places great emphasis on linking basic materials science and industrial applications and is currently working with many well-known companies in the electronics industry around the world, including Japan.

Numerous topics were discussed during the courtesy visit, including a report on the regular mentoring of a third-year Ph.D. student by Professor Randall, who is currently in a short-term fellowship program at the University, and topics related to human resource development in materials science. The topics of the university's advanced human resource development program "Graduate Course for System-inspired Leaders in Multidisciplinary Sciences - SiMS" and the high school and university linkage system with OMU College of Technology were also discussed. It was a meaningful discussion that will hopefully lead to a stronger relationship between OMU and the Materials Research Institute at Penn State in the future.
