OMU hosts the Royal University of Phnom Penh for international exchange and training

From September 11-16, 2023, nine students and one faculty member from the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), Cambodia, visited OMU for an international exchange and training program themed, “System-inspired ICT cutting-edge technology experience program.” The program was supported by the International Youth Exchange Program in Science under the Sakura Science Exchange Program of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

At OMU, participants toured the laboratories of the School of Knowledge and Information Systems and the R&D Center for the Plant Factory (PFC), and held workshops with OMU students. Additionally, a round-table discussion was held with Hiroshi Tsuji, Professor Emeritus & former president of OPU, who has long been in close contact with RUPP.

During an off-campus training, participants toured state-of-the-art large-scale power generation and control facilities that support electricity supply: Kansai Transmission and Distribution, Inc. – Central Load Dispatching Center, Kansai Electric Power Co. – Sakai LNG Center and the Sakaiko Power Station. They also visited a state-of-the-art logistics terminal: Yamato Holdings Co. Ltd. – Kansai Gateway, and a hub for the creation of new values by combining human creativity and technology: Knowledge Capital, Osaka.

The students were constantly enthusiastic and eager to learn, and some even expressed a strong desire to study in Japan. Although their time in Japan was short, it was a good opportunity for the students to deepen their friendship with OMU students and faculty.
