University of Zimbabwe researchers visit Sugimoto Campus

On July 24, 2025, a six-member delegation from the University of Zimbabwe, led by research specialist Dr. Juliana Useya, visited Sugimoto Campus and met with Associate Professor Naomi Hayami from the Graduate School of Human Life and Ecology.

Dr. Ashleigh Pencil, an OMU postdoctoral researcher originally from Zimbabwe, Mr. Zichito Jomane, a University of Zimbabwe graduate studying at OMU’s Graduate School of Science, and research assistant Ms. Chiako Tsubura also attended the meeting.

During the visit, Dr. Pencil presented her research on adolescent nutrition, eating habits, and related issues such as obesity in Zimbabwe. She also referred to Japan’s approach to Shokuiku (food and nutrition education), incorporating Japanese meal models as visual examples to help introduce aspects of Japanese dietary culture.

The meeting served as a meaningful step toward expanding academic engagement between OMU and the University of Zimbabwe.
