Enhancing Academic Collaboration: Signing Ceremony with Manchester Metropolitan University
On September 5, 2025, President Hiroyuki Sakuragi and Vice President Masahide Takahashi visited Greater Manchester in the United Kingdom to participate in a signing ceremony for academic exchange with Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met).
Prior to the ceremony, a campus tour and meeting were held at Manchester Met, where Director Kazunobu Okazaki and Lecturer Takahiro Matsutake of the Research Center for Urban Health and Sports joined President Sakuragi and Vice President Takahashi. They met with Professor Jamie McPhee, Professor Warren Gregson, and other sports researchers to explore avenues for future collaboration.
During the signing ceremony, Manchester Met’s Vice Chancellor Malcolm Press CBE DL and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Mark Sterling, attended. Representatives from both institutions affirmed their commitment to future collaboration, which in turn marked the occasion as a meaningful milestone.
This ceremony was held in conjunction with the Sister City Agreement signing ceremony between Osaka City and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, which was attended by Osaka Mayor Hideyuki Yokoyama, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, and Hiroshi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to the United Kingdom.
This agreement, along with the sister city agreement, is expected to serve as a catalyst for expanding academic exchange with Manchester Met.
