Morinomiya Campus Officially Opens
On September 24, 2025, Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU) proudly celebrated the grand opening of its Morinomiya Campus.
The new campus embodies the concept of a “Forest of Knowledge,” a place where diverse academic fields exchange ideas in harmony with nature, in the heart of Osaka. The campus will bring approximately 6,000 faculty members and students together to foster the creation of new knowledge.
The opening ceremony, held in the main arena, welcomed approximately 400 guests, including Osaka Prefecture Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura and Osaka City Mayor Hideyuki Yokoyama.
President Hiroyuki Sakuragi officially declared the Morinomiya Campus open, followed by a welcome address from Chairperson Shinichi Fukushima of University Public Corporation Osaka.
After the ceremony, Professor Shinya Yamanaka, recipient of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and a graduate of the former Osaka City University Graduate School of Medicine, delivered a commemorative lecture. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, OMU awarded him the title of Distinguished University Professor.
Positioning itself as an urban think tank, OMU aims to offer new, innovative ideas and benefit the local community by contributing to city development and providing disaster resilience. Through its new campus, the university supports the development of globally minded students through enhanced language education, study abroad programs, and international research opportunities.
