New Development of Morinomiya Campus and Establishment of an English-taught Undergraduate College

Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU), a comprehensive institution with 16,000 students, opened its Morinomiya Campus east of Osaka Castle in September 2025. Currently, 5,300 of these students are based at this central location. Building on this foundation, OMU will implement four initiatives for Morinomiya Campus’s latest development. These represent a key step towards the Morinomiya district becoming a fully-fledged “Center of Knowledge.” These new initiatives will contribute to Osaka's sustainable growth and enhanced international competitiveness in the “BEYOND EXPO” era.

The initiatives aim to:

(i) Consolidate the Graduate School of Informatics and establish a new undergraduate School of Informatics

(ii) Establish a new startup and industry-academia collaboration hub

(iii) Establish a new academic organization for an English-taught undergraduate college with entrance in the fall

(iv) Establish a new Graduate School for Working Professionals

Regarding (iii), OMU is planning to launch the College of Creative Studies (tentative name) in fall 2029. At this new college, all courses will, in principle, be taught in English. Located in Osaka, where diverse cultures converge, the college will offer an intercultural and collaborative learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity. Its mission is to cultivate Knowledge Creators—individuals who can apply their creativity, engage in hands-on, practical learning, and address real-world societal challenges while generating new knowledge for the future.

These plans are tentative and the details are subject to change.

The latest information will be announced on the OMU website.
