Delegation from Val d'Oise, France, visits OMU for the first time in four years

On May 31, 2023, a 20-member delegation led by Ms. Marie-Christine Cavecchi, County Council President of Val d'Oise, France, visited OMU. Val-d'Oise Prefecture has been a sister prefecture of Osaka Prefecture since 1987, more than 35 years, and has an extensive experience in cultural and youth exchanges. OMU has been conducting exchanges with a delegation from Val-d'Oise since 2002.

The delegation also consisted of representatives from three universities in Val d'Oise; Professor Luciana Radut-Gaghi and Professor Fabrice Goubard, Vice Presidents of CY Cergy Paris University, Professor Laurence Hafemeister, General Director of the National Electronic Sciences Engineering School (ENSEA), and Professor Florence Dufour, Director General of the Industrial Biology Engineering School (EBI).

To kick off the meeting, Vice President Toshiyuki Matsui gave a welcome speech and introduced Osaka Metropolitan University. From the Val d'Oise side, County Council President, Ms. Cavecchi conveyed a message of respect for the history of exchanges between Osaka Prefecture including OMU and Val d’Oise, and the desire to further strengthen friendly relations with OMU. Professor Radut-Gaghi, Vice President of CY Cergy Paris University, made an enthusiastic proposal for the future development of the exchange, stating that she would like to use this university integration as an opportunity to develop not only student exchanges, but also research exchanges in new fields. In the end, a lively exchange of views took place among the universities, which proved to be very useful.

The second part of the meeting was a great opportunity to hold a signing ceremony for the renewal of the academic exchange agreement with ENSEA. At the beginning of the ceremony, President Masahiro Tatsumisago welcomed the delegation to their first visit in four years, and expressed his hopes for more academic and research exchanges with the Val-d'Oise universities. Since the signing of the exchange agreement with ENSEA in 2005, the university has continuously hosted international students under the double degree program since 2012, and this time, as a new university, the Memorandum of Understanding and double degree program agreements were renewed. Finally, General Director of ENSEA, Professor Hafemeister expressed her hopes for future exchanges between ENSEA and OMU.
