OMU delegation visits Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, and others

On September 29 and October 1–2, 2023, an OMU delegation led by President Masahiro Tatsumisago and Vice President Makoto Tsubota visited the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee, Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, where they had meetings with dignitaries.

September 29 (Friday)

Embassy of Japan in Vietnam

President Tatsumisago, Vice President Tsubota, Professor Shigeo Takenaka, Professor Shinji Yamasaki, Visiting Researcher Yasuaki Maeda, and Specially Appointed Professor Yoshiaki Kitaya met with Ambassador Takio Yamada at his official residence. They discussed the state of education in Japan and Vietnam, and shared insights on the research activities of President Tatsumisago and other faculty members.

October 1 (Sunday)

Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee

President Tatsumisago, Vice President Tsubota, Professor Shigeo Takenaka, Professor Norimichi Takenaka, Professor Yamasaki, Visiting Researcher Maeda, and Specially Appointed Professor Kitaya visited the Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee, where they were welcomed by Vice Chairman Nguyen Truc Son. President Tatsumisago introduced OMU before explaining OMU's related projects in Vietnam and their contributions to the acceptance of Vietnamese students and human resource development.

Ben Tre Province is known as the "sacred land of coconuts" and boasts the largest coconut production in the country. Visiting Researcher Maeda and his group have been investigating regenerative fuels that use coconut oil, with expectations of further collaboration.

After visiting the People's Committee, the delegation toured a coconut factory. Most of the work there is performed manually, and the delegates had the opportunity to observe part of the commercialization process.

October 2 (Monday)

Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City

President Tatsumisago, Vice President Tsubota, Professor Shigeo Takenaka, Professor Norimichi Takenaka, Professor Yamasaki, and Specially Appointed Professor Kitaya paid a courtesy visit to Consul General Masuo Ono. The delegates presented an overview of OMU, their research projects, and international student acceptance data before engaging in a fruitful discussion.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee

President Tatsumisago, Professor Shigeo Takenaka, and Visiting Researcher Maeda had a meeting with Vice Chairman Duong Anh Duc of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. Also in attendance were faculty and staff members from multiple universities that have campuses in Ho Chi Minh City. The participants discussed potential activities to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including academic collaboration, human resource development, and technical support.
