Greetings, everyone! I go by the name Dang Van Thanh, and I hail from the vibrant city of Hanoi, Vietnam.
My journey in the field of medicine began at Hanoi Medical University, where I earned my degree as a general practitioner. Following that, I embarked on a three-year residency program specializing in infectious diseases. Subsequently, I had the privilege of working on a clinical trial conducted by the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit. Once that project reached its conclusion, I made the decision to further my education by enrolling in a Master's program in London in 2022.
Throughout my career, I have had the profound experience of witnessing patients grappling with the challenges of liver fibrosis and liver cancer, particularly during Hepatitis B treatment. These experiences have shaped my aspirations, leading me to a strong desire to focus on research aimed at alleviating these conditions. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn from the accomplished researchers and doctors at Osaka Metropolitan University, specifically within the Hepatology Department. I sincerely look forward to making meaningful contributions to hepatic research in the future.

Good morning/afternoon every one.

Hello, everyone. My name is Nguyen Thi Ha. I’m in my late-twenties and I come from Vietnam. I have finished the 6-year-course as a general practitioner student at Hanoi Medical University since 2018. After that, I pursued the resident doctor program in Microbiology Department at the same university and experienced one year working at Hanoi Lung Hospital as a microbiologist.

It’s a pleasure and honor for me to study in Department of Hepatology at Osaka Metropolitan University. I will take advantage of this precious opportunity to get some deep insight into molecular biology and genomics that I’m really interested in. I’m looking forward to study under your gentle care and supervision. Thank you very much.

Greeting everyone
My full name is Pham Minh Duc, 30 years old, Vietnamese citizen. I graduated from Ha Noi Medical University in 2015 and after these courses, I completed 3 years of residency training specialized in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. After this time, I’ve got my career as a lecturer at the Department of Internal Medicine and gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. The burden of hepatological diseases and their complications in South East Asia countries makes the treatment and prognosis very poor, which makes challenging issues for the physician. Understanding many obstacles when participating in the molecular and clinical hepatological and gastroenterological researches in our national situation about medical facilities, professionals, and financial supports, I choose an opportunity to have a doctoral course abroad. Department of Hepatology in Osaka City University is the best destination for me to fulfill my dream to become a “true researcher” with the help of Professor Kawada and his colleges. Thank you Professor Kawada and Dr. Thuy Le for accepting me as a member of this team, I will try my best in the future.

Greetings, everyone. My full name is Ngo Vinh Hanh. I'm 26 years old. I have graduated from Military Medical University in 2017. and my major is general practitioner.

After that, I spent 2 years working in Center for Gene and Protein research of Hanoi Medical University, specializing in Cell Culturing for Autologous Immune Enhancement Therapy.

I really appreciate the opportunity to come here and study. I'm looking forward to work under everyone's care and guidance. Thank you very much.

Doctor Thuy had interviewed me several times. Finally, she decided sending my documents to the Professor Kawada and I was accepted to apply for the PhD course which started from this April, 2018. I am really happy.

I have only 3 months experiences in basic research, so it is difficult for me at the beginning of studying here. So, I hope everyone will help me and I will try by best.

I am Tuong Thi Van Thuy. I come from Vietnam. Thanks to the helps from Prof. Kawada and Dr.Le, I have applied the Monbusho Scholarship and received it in 2012. So I have been in Japan since October 2012 and started PhD course since April 2013.

Since I was a student at Hanoi Medical University, I have been interested in becoming an internal doctor, specially a hepatologist. In Vietnam, the rate of the patients with chronic liver disease is very high, such as viral hepatitis B, cirrhosis or cancer liver, etc. Unfortunately, the diseases are often detected at late stage, made the patients lost working ability. In addition, the fee to treat the diseases is really burden for them.

When I knew that I would have a chance to study at Prof. Kawada’s laboratory, one of the top researching liver diseases in Japan, I was very glad.

It has been only 6 months since I started to study at the laboratory, I understood that studying PhD course here is really a big chance for me to learn all advanced method at the professional researching environment. I have been approaching to the new knowledge and technique that I had just known on theory without practice before. Moreover, in the laboratory I am very lucky when working with talent and enthusiastic researchers. They not only instruct me carefully in experiments but also show me serious attitude and passionate for science. I hope the PhD course at Osaka City University will help me have fully skills to become a physician - researcher. I will try my best.

Thank you very much Prof. Kawada and his colleagues for all their help as from my first working days.

I am Le Thi Thanh Thuy from Vietnam. I have been in Japan since October 2002. I have PhD degree awarded in March 2007, at the Department of Radiation Biology and Medical Genetics, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University. I had worked there as a specially researcher until January 2008.

I have been interested in liver diseases such as viral hepatitis, cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma, etc, since I was a student at Hanoi Medical University, Vietnam. In Vietnam, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a serious health problem with the number of chronic HBV infection increased from 6,4 million cases in 1990 to around 8,4 million cases in 2005 (more than 10% in population). This is an expanding burden of liver disease which Vietnam, a poor country, has to cope with.

It has been only 3 months since I began to work at this department (from January, 2009) but I realized an active and professional working environment here. All clinical records, patients’ information, diagnosis, and analysis of imaging results such as CT scan, MRI, angiography, etc, are carried out with computer-aid. It is still a wish for our Vietnamese doctors. Working here is my big chance to learn all advanced method of diagnosis as well as treatment in liver diseases such as laparoscopy treatment, radiofrequency ablation therapy, ultrasonic technology, the technology of liver biopsy under ultrasound guidance, percutaneous ethanol injection therapy, clinical skills, etc. Moreover, in the laboratory of this department there are new and “hot” researches carrying out here. Those are B, C virus dynamics and genomic analysis; liver cancer and viral DNA integrated human genes; global analysis of protein gene-related liver fibrosis; development of gene therapy for liver fibrosis using adenovirus; analysis of the clinical condition for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, etc.

I hope I can archive some important results in research field and also in clinical skills while I am working here.

I will do my best!

Thank you very much Prof. Kawada and his colleagues for all their help as from my first working days.
