Overview

The Department of Language and Culture conducts educational research that covers a wide variety of issues concerning languages and cultures by making full use of keen observation and consideration skills to learn about the circumstances of the formation of languages and the social and historical backdrops behind them. It also aims to help students acquire high degrees of specialization in language and culture, research planning skills, an international perspective, and the ability to flexibly work on the resolution of the issues faced by modern society. Students in the Department can study the literature and various cultural phenomena of Japan and other countries and acquire knowledge of linguistic research, including individual linguistics, contrastive linguistics, sociolinguistics, and applied linguistics.
