The name of the graduate school, “Graduate School of Sustainable System Sciences,” reflects our mission to pursue a sustainable future. Advances in science have enriched our lives in many ways. However, alongside these developments, humanity faces growing global challenges: water, food, and energy crises caused by climate change and rapid population growth; widening economic disparity and poverty; conflicts between nations and regions rooted in differences in religion and values; and the rapid rise of mental health issues and accelerating aging populations. To address these complex issues, we seek new pathways through interdisciplinary research, translate knowledge into action, and build a sustainable future. This is the defining goal of the Graduate School of Sustainable System Sciences.
Our graduate school is committed to cultivating individuals who embody the following qualities: a strong sense of mission, responsibility, and ethical awareness to contribute to a sustainable society where everyone can live well; the ability to communicate their research in an accessible way to those outside their own field; and the capacity to integrate knowledge across disciplines to solve problems. Interdisciplinary learning and research not only provide effective means to tackle challenges in the real world and contribute to the realization of a society where all people can thrive, but also help pave the way for new frontiers of knowledge. We invite you to join us in tackling the multifaceted challenges of contemporary society, blending specialized expertise with a broad, integrative perspective, and contributing together to building a better future.
