The society that awaits those who complete graduate school, the highest level of education, does not operate within the traditional divisions of the humanities and sciences; rather, it is a world where these fields are intricately intertwined. The Graduate School of Sustainable System Sciences is a place where students can pursue more specialized academic studies and research based on a wide range of comprehensive knowledge and ways of thinking that integrate the humanities and sciences. The department  is dedicated to pursuing sustainability, as reflected in its English name, "Sustainable System Sciences."  Many people may feel that the current state of issues such as environmental challenges, societal problems, and human concerns is far from ideal. Our goal is to identify these issues, explore solutions, take action, and bring them to fruition. This is the academic pursuit and research focus of the Graduate School of Sustainable System Sciences, ultimately contributing to society.
The Graduate School of Sustainable System Sciences aims to cultivate students who possess a strong sense of mission, responsibility, and ethical judgment, based on the desire to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society where everyone can live happily. Students will develop the ability to clearly communicate their research to individuals from different fields, as well as the capability to combine insights from diverse disciplines to solve problems. Cross-disciplinary learning and research will not only aid in solving real-world issues but also contribute to the creation of a society where everyone can live happily and the realization of a sustainable society. This approach provides diverse and flexible perspectives, essential for advancing new frontiers of knowledge. By building on a broad knowledge base, students will engage with more specialized knowledge, collaborating with faculty to tackle the complex problems of contemporary society and contribute to the construction of a better future.
